FACTS OF INTEREST

The Rowlett Fire Department was created in the early 1950s, and purchased their first fire engine in 1955. Until 1979, it was a volunteer department; in 1979, three persons were hired. The department has since grown to more than 59 with an annual budget of $3.7 million.

The fire department responibilities also include the addition of Building Inspections and Code Enforcement.

The Operations Division operates three shifts of 18 firefirefighters each with a duty schedule of 24 hours on duty, 48 hours off. The department maintains three stations. Central Station (Station 1) and Station 2 operate fully equipped Mobile Intensive Care Units (MICU).

THE ROWLETT FIRE DEPARTMENT PROVIDES THE FOLLOWING SERVICES

FIRST AID / CPR CLASSES: Offered regularly to citizens 16 years and older. Classes are held approximately every three months.

BLOCK PARTY: When schedules permit, we visit neighborhood parties, exhibiting the engine and ambulance.

SAFE-SITTER CLASS: For youth between 11 to 16, we offer a course instructing on physical safety for themselves, and the children under their care, and on fire safety, feeding tips, playtime activities, and CPR.

STATION TOUR: Schools, clubs and scouting organizations are invited to visit our facilities.

BLOOD PRESSURE CHECKS: These are available at any fire station free of charge. Individual records are kept. There are no limits on your number of visits.

FIRE PROTECTION: We attempt to educate all ages in fire safety with a puppet show created for the very young, the Fire Safe House for the elementary ages, and clowns - Scooter and Rescue -are the newsest hit around and entertain all ages. We also offer a successful Adopt-A-School program, and the annual Fire Prevention Week Safety Contest. Fire Extinguisher classes are offered when asked.
